Breck Eisner Remaking Romero's "The Crazies"

Crazies poster

Variety reports that Overture FIlms will produce a remake of George A. Romero's The Crazies, to be directed by Breck Eisner (Saraha). Eisner will be working from a script by Ray Wright (Pulse '06) and Scott Kosar (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03). Romero will act as executive producer. The original film dealt with an insanity-causing virus infecting a small town, and the brutal tactics used by the governement to contain the outbreak. Production on this new version is expected to start sometime next year. Eisner is also attached to an upcoming remake of Universal's Creature from the Black Lagoon.

I'm approaching my breaking point

Okay, for a while I dealt with remakes just fine.  I see that they can sometimes be good and reven relevant.  Some (such as The Fly) are even better than the original.

However, I don't think I can take much more.  Nothing against these films in particular; they may very well be good films (especially The Crazies with Romero on board), but I'm to the point where I'm starving for new (and good) stuff!

Hopefully others are feeling the same way and the laws of supply and demand will kick in.  Hopefully.

I thought OUTBREAK was already a big budget inspired version of THE CRAZIES.

Romero's involvement doesn't

Romero's involvement doesn't necessarily mean anything. John Carpenter was an executive producer on the much-lamented remake of The Fog and, from my understanding, he was barely involved. It was more of a contractual obligation thing.
